Critical Literacy

Attends to the origins and contemporary applications of critical literacy as theory, methodology, pedagogy and social action. Grounded in exploring and understanding literacy as a social practice that may be used to interrogate injustice and inequity in social, cultural, spatial and professional contexts. Explores issues including the relationships of literacy and power; the politics, ideology and social context of literacy; multiple literacies and modes of interaction with texts; critiques of critical literacies and pedagogies; and literacy as a means to design and take social and political action toward more just and equitable futures.
